Bottom line, what's with Neal's guitar on this? Kinda like shoving the guitar down my throat. OK... I get it, he can play the guitar, but c'mon.
Arnel's vocals were ok at best. Nothing made me turn my head and go "OMG!". and frankly, I want that out of Journey to bother anymore. Do you know who co-wrote Believe in Me? look it up. JSS has no grounds for anything. True - Neal co-wrote it so that gives him the right to rip it off? and motorcity my friend how is it that all of a sudden you have a friend who directly works with the band and was in on their meeting about jeff? you didn't seem to have that friend when you were bashing myself and others on bt for which you were banned for.

JSS has no grounds for anything. I wasn't aware Neal co-wrote the song. However, it's still fuckin bizarre that it's so similar, considering they didn't keep Jeff. And I hardly think it's an overreaction.

| Juh-nees 1st choice - Jeremey Hunsicker co-wrote this song. Notice that was washed under the rug in the press release. I look forward to hearing him sing it instead. | |

| I personally had a "I'm not impressed" feeling when I first heard this song.
I couldn't put a finger on it.
Thankfully, Maria put her finger on my impression...
It lacks originality.
Manarocks, I think you're missing the point...it's not a case of whether or not Neal should have or could have stolen from himself....but an artist that constantly pours out such a blatantly regurgitation of craft, isn't a very good artist. It really seems to me that Neal is creatively spent at this point.
And that ideal of being creatively spent, falls right in line with the fact that they picked up a singer who's got zero originality in his own voice.
More proof that this is a clusterfuck waiting to happen.
I wish them luck...they're going to need it.

this thread is about the blatant similarities between "never walk away", "believe in me", "never too late" and "be good to yourself". i just listened to them all on a shuffle and the only constant in each song is neal. there is no creativity to the new song whatsoever. being the classic sound is one thing, but having the exact same guitar line and melody is another. the only difference i hear with bgty is the heavy keys. it's a decent song, but it is not anything new or fresh. honestly, deep down, and i know i'm not alone, i wanted to be blown away. i'm not. Just gave the song, by link above, the all american try. I immediately thought BE GOOD TO YOURSELF. (Did not follow the stuff from the Augeri age for the most part, so can't relate the other examples) More than that, I was hearing the raves for this at MR, so I thought I would be drawn in. Was underwhelmed, sorry

| Let me also add...the sign of a truely good artist, is one that can leave his/her stamp on a piece of material, without self-plagarism. This is a case of the later. If you want to hear a band that was damn good at retaining their signature sound while not copying themselves, look no further than either the new whitesnake album, the new House of Lords album or any van halen album with Sammy Hagar singing.
This is just regurgitated songs that are 20 years old, with a guy that sounds like Perry only when he's not screaming. (which on this particular song, is only 20-30% of the time)

| there's nothing in remember me or on arrival or red13 that blatantly plagarizes any other journey song. they seemed to have taken their signature sound to a more contemporary level and maybe one to suit their new singer at the time. did they suddenly realize they had to actually work at keeping that sound and backed away from it? we all know augeri was the driving force behind generations being released. he was the only one even trying to write new music.
and then all the bravado comments about jeff taking them in a new, fresh direction. i guess after saying that they realized it meant they actually had to work. now all they have to do is continue to play the dirty dozen and wait for this singer to burn out.
wonder if they will take a cue from the soup nazi and say to arnel "NO MORE JOURNEY FOR YOU! NEXT!!!!!!!!!!"

| On the original topic...it's a good song (for the Be Good To Yourself, Never Too Late, and Believe in Me trainwreck that it is)...but I just can't stand the diction issues. "Don't GEEV up" for instance. It's annoying. And this guy does NOT sound like Perry. Jeremey is MUCH closer in tone. | |

- Will Jeremey sing this song at Frontiers shows? I guess if he is a co-writer he has the right to do that, huh? Not that it matters, I guess. Frontiers is a Journey tribute band after all.
It's kinda ironic when you think about it that he will be paying 'tribute' to a band by singing the band's song that he actually helped write. Weird, huh... He should. it's his song also. It's not wierd, it's called talent.
