Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Late rocker Kurt Cobain is the new endorser of Converse shoes, a deal that doesn't sit well with Nirvana fans.
His widow Courtney Love has given her consent to a line of Converse sneakers inspired by her husband to help mark the shoe company's 100th anniversary.
Converse Global Footwear's creative director, Scott Patt, said in a press release Friday, "They are the renegades of sound, the league-changers, champions of underachievement, the paint drippers and those with flawless style," referring to Cobain and the band Grateful Dead, which will also release their shoe line with the company.
He continued, "These pioneers follow what's inside and do what they believe to be right."
The Cobain collection, which will hit stores this fall, will come in three styles: Chuck Taylor All Stars, Jack Purcell and One Star. It will retail between $50 and $65.
However, if the basis for sales is the fans' online comments, then Converse shouldn't look forward to a hit.
Although Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994, did wear the brand when he was still rocking, his faithful fans are seeing the new endorsement deal as Love's exploitation of his name.
Fans are "disgusted" that the former Hole singer is taking advantage of her husband's name. They claim that she is cashing in on their idol's legacy.
This isn't the first time Love has been accused of milking Cobain's fame. Last year, she put up his belongings for auction.
