LOVE, love, love Gotthard! When I first heard them many years ago (my friend Peter from Zurich turned me onto them -- Gotthard is from Switzerland), I immediately liked the music, but not the singer's voice. I didn't hate it, but it just took some more listening and discovering the rest of their catalog to realize how well he uses it and how he fits perfectly in the band. I would love to see them live and it really killed me not to be able to see them at last year's Firefest.
Right now, the obsession that just won't go away is David Readman's voice. He put out a solo album this past August, but his day job is singing for Pink Cream 69. He took over the gig after Andi Deris left in 1994. Simply amazing voice and not too shabby to look at either, ladies. Oh, look, YouTube links below! How convenient!

Wow, Mindy, small world! Can't recall knowing a "Mindy" in my travels, but I could be wrong? Venture onto Bay Street back, when it was the place to be way back when, at all?

I'll have to listen to a bit of them and decide if I can get into their music. I think their band's name is kind of funny...
"Whatcha got there Greg?" Greg says," Gothard!" "Come again?"

I think it's pronounced "Gott-ard". I could be wrong, but since they are from Switzerland (and I know they speak German out there), the pronounciation is bound to be drastically different than what we may think.
Will ask some of my "experts".
Edit: Question posed. Will get back to you.

I'm curious to know myself. I mean, I have never heard anybody pronounce it and didn't realize they were a German band.
Hey, they're my peeps! And, yes, is a pretty smokin' rock dude. Too bad the only video I have of him is from the single "Lift U Up" (what a fantastic song!). Hint, hint...
Edit: Here's one just for you, Maria! You can see Steve really up close in this one:
Collecting a few others to my favorites page (THERockerChic, of course!).

oh yeah i owe you some stuff!!!!!!! lol, you will have it on the 26th. we're on right!??!??!?!
Well it appears that I started off a bit of a controversy by asking for the proper pronounciation of "Gotthard". Here's what they have to say:
"Gotthard is not a mountain, but actually the longest railway tunnel in the world. How you actually pronounce it, I can't help you with."
"Firstly Rocker Chic, some of the others are right, it's pronounced Gott-hard, and Jason, actually yes, it IS a mountain."
"I double checked, and it IS a tunnel that runs through the Alps from one end of Switzerland, through Italy. So the Alps are the mountains, and the Gotthard Railway Tunnel (its full name) IS the tunnel."
"Gotthard is a tunnel through the Alps. The word itself isn't pronounced with a gap making it sound like 2 words, although the localised accents will make it sound that way with the heavy H sound."
"From Wikipedia St. Gotthard Pass (Italian: San Gottardo) (el. 2108 m.) is a high mountain pass in Switzerland between Airolo in the canton of Ticino, and Göschenen in the canton of Uri, connecting the northern German-speaking part of Switzerland with the Italian-speaking part, along the route onwards to Milan.
Though the pass was locally known in antiquity, it was not generally used until the early 13th century, because it involved fording the turbulent Schöllen, swollen with snowmelt during the early summer, in the narrow steep-sided Schöllenen Gorge, below Andermatt. As early as 1236, it was dedicated to the Bavarian Saint Gotthard of Hildesheim.
The 15-kilometer-long St. Gotthard Tunnel opened in 1882 for railway traffic at a cost of 177 workers' lives and replaced the pass road [1]. A 17 km road tunnel opened in 1980, with far fewer resulting deaths (53). A second rail tunnel through the pass, the Gotthard Base Tunnel, is currently under construction. Swiss authorities aim to have fewer than 10 construction-related deaths (the current tally stands at 7). When completed, it will be the longest rail tunnel in the world at 57 km. This tunnel, combined with two shorter tunnels planned near Zürich and Lugano as part of the AlpTransit initiative will reduce the 3 hour 40 min rail journey from Zürich to Milan by one hour, while increasing the size and number of trains that can operate along the route because the line is nearly level, compared with the spirals of the older tunnel.
